Protects the parts of the shelves, media area as well as the hanging areas for the clothes so our puppy stays out of it. It can ne stacked higher or longer as needed. Definitely not for big digs as ut will topple down. But for our small poodle it does the job to keep him from being enticed until he is tamed enough. Definitely a plus if you live in a small apartment. It does not overwhelm the space.
